The Painting and drawing courses at Art Courses Wales run for 3-days as long weekends (Saturday to Monday), except for the five day summer landscape course . Courses start in February and end in December. On average there is one course per month.
We offer 5 different subjects/themes :- Life – (studying from the model), Portrait , Still-life, Landscape and Colour . In addition to this there are ‘Tutorial Workshops’ which run 7 times a year. The studio is purpose-built, spacious, with a high ceiling and skylights. There are 8 or 9 students per class, so personal tuition is assured.
Most of the courses are about direct drawing and painting from nature. The old masters are a consideration , but it is basically the modernist artists of the late 19th and 20th centuries ,through to our present day, who underlie the teaching practices.
Lunch are included and provided by an award winning chef Gavin Kellett. Lunch is also a welcomed break from the busy studio. Refreshments, teas and coffees are available throughout the day and likewise they are all included in the fee.
Materials: It is advised you bring your own materials. However there is a standby stock of paints, papers and primed surfaces. Drawing boards, easels and work stations are all available.
