Life Painting & Drawing Weekend 2026

Life Painting & Drawing Weekend 2026

Life painting and drawing study

WEEKEND LIFE CLASS. 10-12 October

This is the third life class of the year. The routine is much the same as the February and June courses. Saturday is an exploratory drawing session using various approaches and materials in response to poses ranging from two minutes to an hour. Sunday and Monday use longer poses for painting, lasting from two to five hours.

Drawing is encouraged as much as painting, so the longer sessions suit painters as well as those who prefer prolonged drawing. Tasks are set, but instruction is mostly one-to-one and tailored to individual needs and experience. Many members of the group attend regularly, so the aim is to help everyone take their work to a further stage.

Levels

The course is suitable for intermediate and advanced students. Some experience of life drawing and painting is therefore useful. A couple of places are reserved for beginners.

The studio

The purpose-built studio is spacious and has excellent light from a large expanse of roof lights. Studio easels and workstations are provided. View the studio, house and location.

Materials

We recommend bringing your own drawing and painting materials. Our stock is available as a backup. There is a good supply of large drawing sheets, primed paper, boards and canvases, as well as a small stock of brushes for sale.

If you are unsure what to bring, please discuss materials with us when booking. We want to help you avoid spending a small fortune on unnecessary supplies.

Lunch and refreshments

Lunch is included and prepared by award-winning chef Gavin Kellett, who provides wholesome vegetarian soups that vary each day, together with locally baked bread or baked potatoes, salads and fruit. Please tell us about any dietary requirements. Lunch is served in our spacious dining room and provides a welcome, friendly break from the studio.

Coffee, tea and biscuits are available throughout the day and are included.
